How to Write an Essay in APA Format For College
How to Write an Essay in APA Format For CollegeI'm going to teach you how to write an essay in APA format for college. That's Advanced Placement exam style, and it is the format most colleges use to judge students' progress. The first thing you need to know about writing an APA essay is that you need to read the guidebook to make sure you're following the right format. Most of us have had a book in high school English or math, where the author wrote in a form that would make sense to us. To be a good writer, you need to do the same thing. It isn't enough to be able to write the paragraph sentence by sentence. If you can't organize your thoughts, then that's half the battle won. You need to understand what you are doing when you organize your thoughts. Even though we can see pictures, we still need to see them in order to make sense of them. This is true in all forms of writing. No matter how complex your material is, you need to be able to structure it in a format that will make sense t o you. You will be assigned paragraphs to tell a story. You need to make sense of what you are doing in each paragraph. Otherwise, you will just copy and paste information from one paragraph to another. You also need to be able to organize your thoughts properly. Many times, the author will give you lists of ideas. You may need to create a list yourself, or just take notes as you read. Remember, this is an exam. Now, here's a very simple format that is easy to understand. It requires some careful organization. After each idea, write a sentence that summarizes what you just read. This is going to serve as your summary. After each paragraph, summarize what you just read and list the main ideas of the paragraph, in order of importance. List what they are, and why you should believe it. The easiest way to do this is to list the main idea first, and then list each one in its place. Finally, summarize what you just read in the body. Make sure you keep each paragraph short, but long enough to get your point across, and you'll be fine.
